When Laura Stewart hears the squeaky floorboards on the first landing of the staircase, she believes her roommates have changed their minds about spending the weekend at a nearby resort and have returned home.
Laura Dives into the closet as her room is invaded with flashlights. It's not long before she is discovered.
At a remote location where she is taken, Laura refuses to provide the boss with information about her relationship with Antonio.
Laura's Dilemma is about escaping with the kidnappers hot on her heels through treacherous but beautiful landscapes in Columbia. It is also about trust and falling in love again....
There it was again, that squeaky floorboard on the first landing of the staircase. Laura stopped reading and turned down the radio, expecting to hear the voices of her two
roommates. Instead, there was silence - not what she'd normally expect if George and Hannah had just arrived home.
She switched off the lamp, slipped out of bed, and stood in the dark, tense and waiting. More squeaking - this time in the short hallway leading from the stairs to her
attic room. The doorknob rattled and Laura dived into the closet, pulling the door closed behind her.
Peeking out the crack of an opening, she tensed even more as two narrow beams of light pierced the darkness of her room followed by stealthy footsteps.
"She's not here," a deep voice said in Spanish.
"She must be hiding," a higher-pitched but still male voice replied, and after a moment he continued. "Look, the bed's still warm and the radio's playing. Here's a book."
She watched yellow beams dance on the walls and floor of her room within her range of vision. What were two men doing in her bedroom at midnight on a Friday?
